RE: New Graduation Date/New Class Structure

Dear Apprentices:

We hope that all you are enjoying the winter break. It looks like this year is going to be busy. I first want to apologize for the lack of updates on the web. I would like to address some recent updates to the program.

  1. The curriculum has been updated to reflect a more Collegiate style (i.e. there are now Core classes as well as Elective Classes)

    1. Core Classes: Introduction to Roofing, Roofing & Waterproofing Safety, BUR I, II, III, Single-Ply I, II, III, Steep I, II, III, Advanced Safety/Leadership

    2. Elective Classes: (Both classes are necessary but when they are taken is optional) Math/Blueprint or Roofing Yesterday & Today, and either Waterproofing/Green Technology or Cold Process/Coatings

  2. We have also changed the graduation date to sometime around March 2012. This was done to allow time for those that may have missed a class because of illness, or to allow more practice time before being evaluated.

  3. We had a wonderful competition (2nd Annual Roofer & Waterproofers Apprenticeship Competition) with great prizes (over $900.00 worth of prizes given away), but our participation by the apprentices was not good as we had hoped. Many felt that they were not good enough to compete. You won’t know how good you are unless you try. Please give it a shot, you would be surprised.

  4. Of note to all, if you are not getting adequate hands-on training at your shop please call me and I will be glad discuss ways we can improve you On-the-Job training.

As to be expected there are always questions about the new arrangements and I will be more than happy to answer any of your conerns. If you would like to address any jobsite issues or need more than just a “quick phone call” to discuss problems, please call and Patty will be happy to set up an appointment so I can give you my full attention. The office is always open for a listening ear. Be safe!

Sincerely,

Clint Mapes
